Nigerian wrestling star Blessing Adekuoroye has defeated North Korea’s Sun Jong 12-2 at the ongoing 2019 Senior World Wrestling Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
Adekuoroye, a silver medalist at the 2017 edition in Paris, had earlier beaten Vietnam’s Trang Nguye 10-0 in her first-round encounter. She continued in that same rich vein of form to beat her North Korean opponent 12-2 via technical superiority on Wednesday in the 57kg category to book her semi-final spot in Kazakhstan.
The 2019 World Wrestling Championships also serves as qualification for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. By virtue of her victory, the world number three has qualified for next year’s Olympics. The four-time African Champion also aims to become the world Champion for the first time at this year’s tournament.
