Nigerian wrestling star Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg) has moved up in the newly released rankings by the United World Wrestling on Monday.
Adekuoroye is now placed second in the world with 73pts. Her latest rise comes after she won bronze at last month’s World Championships in Kazakhstan, also reaching the Tokyo 2020 finals by virtue of her victory.
The Commonwealth champion is just three points off first-placed Ningning Rong of China, while Norway’s Grace Bullen is third with 66points.
In the 68kg category, 9-time African champion Blessing Oborududu is now ranked the fourth-best wrestler in the world.
Oborududu, a Commonwealth gold medalist too, stays in 4th place with 48pts, behind Sweden’s Anna Fransson, Ukrainian Alla Cherkasova and Mongolia’s Battsetseg Soronzonbold who make up the top three with 56points, 52points and 51points respectively.
In the men’s freestyle category, three-time African champion, Emmanuel Ogbonna is ranked 14th in the 74kg weight class with 18 points.
