Forward Anthony Nwakaeme scored the winner for Turkish side Trabzonspor in their 2-1 comeback win at Rizespor on Sunday evening.
Rizespor started the game brightly and it was not long before they took the lead. Dario Melnjak received a through ball from Abdullah Durak, turned between two Trabzonspor defenders and unleashed an unstoppable rocket that went into the top right corner in the 23rd minute.
After the restart, Unal Karaman’s Trabzonspor began to enjoy a large share of possession, and deservedly drew level in the 73rd minute, with Alexander Sorloth heading home a Daniel Sturridge cross.
With the game set to end in a draw, Nwakaeme popped up with the winner in the final minute of regulation time. A long ball was sent into Rizespor’s penalty area, and Sorloth headed it to Nwakaeme, who finished emphatically, completing the turnaround for Trabzonspor.
With the win, the UEFA Europa league campaigners went up to third in the Turkish Super Lig with 12 points from seven games played so far.
Nwakaeme, 30, has been featured regularly, scoring two goals and contributing a further two assists for the Black Sea Storm this season.
