Nigeria forward Anthony Nwakaeme applied the coup de grace for Trabzonspor in their impressive 3-1 away win over Yeni Malatyaspor in the Turkish Super Lig on Wednesday.
Trabzonspor went ahead early in the opening half of the game when Jose Sosa found some space on the left-side of Malatyaspor’s defence before sending in a sumptuous cross for the unmarked Filip Novak to head home for the opening goal in the tenth minute.
Sosa then increased his side’s lead with a goal of his own at the half-hour mark. The Argentine fired in a free-kick from 25 yards for his sixth league goal of the campaign to put the visitors in the driver’s seat.
With just a minute to be played in the half, Umut Bulut pulled a goal back for Hikmet Karaman’s men. Bulut’s shot took a wicked deflection off a Trabzonspor defender before going in.
After the interval, the visitors regained their two-goal cushion through Nwakaeme’s goal in the 55th minute as they set their eyes on reaching the summit.
The scoreline remained the same for the rest of the game, with the Black Sea Storm increasing their points tally to 52, same as second-placed Istanbul Basaksehir but with a superior goals difference.
Huseyin Cimsir’s men remain unbeaten in all competitions in 2020 while Malatyaspor stay in 13th after suffering their sixth defeat in seven games.
Nwakaeme has now scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 24 league appearances for the Turkish outfit so far this campaign.
