Midfielder Ramon Azeez was on target in his side’s 2-0 win over Barcelona in La Liga at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes on Saturday.
Having opened his account in the Spanish top-flight earlier in the season, Azeez grabbed a goal in his first league start as newly-promoted Granada shocked the champions to go top of La Liga.
With just two minutes on the clock, Azeez was the beneficiary of a blunder by Barcelona full-back Junior Firpo, and he headed home the resulting cross from close range to set the stage for a huge win. Barcelona pushed hard for an equalizer but struggled to find their rhythm, even following the half-time introductions of Lionel Messi and teenage sensation Ansu Fati.
Arturo Vidal, on as a substitute, further undermined Barcelona’s chances of a comeback, handling the ball in the area only three minutes after joining the proceedings. A penalty was awarded after a VAR consultation by referee Cuadra Fernandez, and up stepped Alvaro Vadillo to fire past goalkeeper Marc-Ander Ter Stegen and put Granada 2-0 up.
Despite a late flurry of attacks by Barcelona, Granada held on to record a famous win.
The 26-year-old Nigerian international Azeez has now scored two goals for El Grana in La Liga so far.
