Basketball: Heartbreaking as Raptors loses Serge Ibaka to Clippers

31-year old Congolese-Spanish player Serge Ibaka has signed a $19 million two-year contract with Los Angeles Clippers, thus making it the second NBA off-season in a row the Raptors have lost a player they wanted to keep to the Clippers. Now they have to deal with the fact that one of their most popular, viable and colorful player is leaving.

Ibaka was one with many hats and scarves. In 2019, he was named in Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed List.

NBA’s 2019-2020 season has been the best season for Ibaka. Averaging 15.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, Ibaka had been considering offers from the Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Brooklyn Nets.

Sports Illustrated has called the Clippers’ move for Ibaka the “savviest move of the offseason.”
