Former Nigeria youth international Chidera Ejuke scored a second-half double as SC Heereneveen claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sparta Rotterdam in the Eredivisie on Saturday.
Ejuke, 21, last scored in the league in September but returned with two well-taken goals to steer the Frisians away from defeat to victory at Abe Lenstra Stadium.
The visitors went ahead in the 26th minute after a defensive mix-up in the home side’s box allowed South Africa international Lars Veldwijk head home. The half ended with the visitors in front.
After the interval, Ejuke took the game into his hands by delivering two top class finishes.
He levelled matters in the 73rd minute: a series of quick step-overs left Dirk Abels off-balance, and he curled the ball past goalkeeper Ariel Harush for his fifth league goal this season.
Six minutes later, he completed his brace in similar fashion. He picked the ball from out wide, mesmerized Abels once again, before slotting home through the legs of Harush.
Johnny Jansen’s men then held on to record victory and to extend their unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions. They sit in seventh with 21 points after 13 league games.
In just his maiden season with the Eredivisie side, Ejuke has scored six goals in 13 games for Heereneveen.
