Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has been shortlisted for the 2019 Ballon D’or Trophée Kopa Award along with nine others, France Football announced on Monday.
The Trophée Kopa is an award given to the most outstanding player under the age of 21 and it is named after former French footballer Raymond Kopa.
The award is in its second year as France’s Kylian Mbappe won the inaugural edition after his magnificent performances helped Les Blues win the Russia 2018 World Cup and Paris Saint-German (PSG) retain the Ligue 1 title.
Samuel Chukwueze had a breakthrough season with Villarreal last term and also won bronze at the 2019 African Cup Of Nations in Egypt with the Super Eagles.
Other nominees include João Félix, Jadon Sancho, Moise Kean and U-20 World Cup runner-up Kang-in Lee.
Juventus defender Mathijs de Ligt, Vinicius Jr, Kai Havertz, Mattéo Guendouzi and Andriy Lunin complete the list.
The award is also a special one as it will be voted for by former Ballon d’Or winners including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric. The winner of the Trophée Kopa will be revealed at an event on December 2.
