Belgian side Club Brugge have confirmed the signing of Nigeria U23 forward David Okereke from Serie B side Spezia Calcio on a four-year deal.
The Blau-Zwart reportedly paid a fee of €8m to secure the services of the Nigerian who was playing fourth-tier football in Italy about four years ago.
According to various reports, Okereke was a target for Italian Seria A side Sassuolo, as well as various premier league sides, before signing for the former Belgian champions.
A statement concerning his transfer to the Jan Breydel Stadium was posted on the club’s official website.
”David Okereke took his final medical tests today and then signed a 4-season contract with club. He will train with the group for the first time tomorrow at the Club Brugge Basecamp,” reads the statement on the club’s official website.
Okereke joins another Nigeria U-23 player Dennis Bonaventure at the club, and both will feature in Europe’s foremost competition, the UEFA Champions League next season.
The 21-year-old in his breakthrough season with Spezia Calcio scored 10 goals and provided 12 assists for the Aquilotti in 30 Serie B games.
