Heracles Almelo striker Cyriel Dessers has been named Eredivisie Player of the Month for November.
The 24-year-old has been in sterling form so far this season for Heracles, and in the month under review he was involved in nine goals for the club, including a hattrick and an assist in the 6-1 annihilation of VVV-Venlo on matchday 13.
Dessers also netted a brace against ADO Den Haag this past weekend, taking his tally for the season to 11 goals in 15 games, the highest haul so far in the league this term. He beat off competition from highly-rated youngster Owen Wijndal, who had to make do with the U-21 Player of the Month plaque, and Ajax’s Quincy Promes to win the award.
The talented marksman was born in Belgium, but is eligible to play for Nigeria through his mother, and has stated his desire to pledge his international future to the Super Eagles.
“I’ll be twice as happy if I can get an invite, even if it’s a friendly against Madagascar or Mauritius,” Dessers said recently when asked about the possibility of turning out in green and white.
“There’s already been contact with the NFF. After the match against ADO Den Haag an official from Nigeria sent me a message that I was doing well.”
