Nigeria U-23 forward David Okereke expressed his joy at grabbing a dream debut goal for his Belgian side Club Brugge in their 3-1 win over Waasland-Beveren at the Freethiel Stadion on Saturday night.
Okereke started the league opener and his goal two minutes after the break gave his side a 2-1 lead. He reacted quickest in the box to fire in from close range after an initial save by the opposition goalkeeper.
“During the break, the coach told me that I had to attack the ball more at the first post. That’s where the passes came,” he revealed. “I am happy with my goal and the victory for the team is great.
“Whether this is a relief? No, not really. With one goal you can’t really be relieved; you have to do more than that.
“I only arrived in Bruges not too long and I still have tactical work, but things are going well.
“The coach works hard every day to make us play beautiful football. You saw that back a bit in the game,” Okereke concluded.
The former Spezia Calcio striker featured for 79 minutes and will look to continue his good start in Belgium for the Blue-black when they take on Sint-Truiden in their next league game on August 2.
