Heracles Almelo striker Cyriel Dessers is ecstatic about receiving his first call-up to the Super Eagles.
The Belgian born striker has been in fine form since joining Frank Wormuth’s side from Utrecht last summer, registering 15 goals from 25 appearances in the Eredivisie.
Gernot Rohr, who has been keeping close tabs on the striker, has finally given him an opportunity by including him in the squad to face Sierra Leone over two legs in Asaba and Freetown.
Dessers alongside FC Koln’s Kingsley Ehizibue are the two new faces in Rohr’s 24-man squad.
“So honoured and proud. Can’t wait to wear the Green-White jersey and meet the team! Flag of Nigeria Super Eagles,” Dessers said via Twitter.
“This would not have happened without the trust of the club and the cooperation with the team. I am very grateful to them for that,” he also told the Heracles Almelo official website.
The Super Eagles are currently top of Group L after winning their two opening matches in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. Victory against Sierra Leone will guarantee qualification for next year’s continental showpiece.
