Former Nigeria youth international Chidera Ejuke scored on his debut in Heerenveen’s 4-0 win over Heracles in their Eredivisie opener at the Polman Stadion on Sunday.
The 21-year-old former Gombe United winger joined the De Superfriezen on a four-year-deal from Norwegian club Valerenga for a reported fee of €2 million.
Heerenveen were out of sight of the hosts after just half an hour. De Superfriezen got their opener through Ibrahim Dresevic’s fierce free-kick, after which Jordy Bruijn curled in another one beyond goalkeeper Janis Blaswich to further extend Heerenveen’s lead.
It went from bad to worse for poor Heracles when Mitchell van Bergen profited from some atrocious defending to put the game beyond their opponents. Chidera Ejuke was introduced in the 67th minute in place of Jordy Bruijn and capped a memorable debut with a goal of his own in the 90th minute.
In the same game, Nigeria U-20 invitee Hamdi Akujobi also came on in the 73rd minute for his first-team debut after his move from Spaartan ‘20. The attacking midfielder could have also grabbed a debut goal in the 78th minute but his effort on goal was saved.
Ejuke and Heerenveen will host Feyenoord at the Abe Lenstra Stadion on August 11 in their next league game.
