Nigeria forward Chidera Ejuke scored for the first time in four matches for Heerenveen in a comfortable 3-0 win at Excelsior Maassluis in the first round of the KNVB Beker on Wednesday.
Ejuke, winner of the best U-21 player in the Eredivisie last month, opened the scoring for the Frisians as they enjoyed a wonderful evening at Sportpark Dijkpolder.
Heerenveen went into the lead after just ten minutes, as Ejuke exchanged passes with Mitchell Van Berger before firing past Van Leeuwen to set the tone for the victory.
Six minutes before half-time, having thwarted several shots popped at him, Leeuwen had no answer to Jordy Bruijn’s strike as Heerenveen took a 2-0 lead into the break.
Heerenveen then capped proceedings with a third goal six minutes from time, as Daniel Hoegh applied the final stroke to send Johnny Jansen’s side through to the next round.
Ejuke has five goals to his name in 12 games in all competitions so far this term.
