Reigning Nigerian league champions Enyimba will face South African club TS Galaxy in the Play-off Round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Enyimba exited the CAF Champions League at the hands of Sudanese side Al Hilal (1-0 on aggregate) last month, but that First Round defeat meant they went into the draw for Africa’s second-tier competition, one of 16 teams that dropped down to the Confederation Cup following elimination at that stage.
The draw, which was conducted on Wednesday, pits them against Galaxy, who pulled off a famous upset in the 2019 Nedbank Cup, South Africa’s main cup competition. Their run to that success saw them go past the likes of Jomo Cosmos and Golden Arrows, before defeating Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in the final in May.
Helmed by former Chippa United coach Dan Malesela, Galaxy overcame Madagascar’s CNaPS Sport 3-1 on aggregate in the previous round.
Nigeria’s other representative Enugu Rangers were drawn against Togolese side ASC Kara, who qualified to this round at the expense of Beninese side Buffles Du Borgou.
The first legs will be played on the weekend of October 30, while the return legs will take place a week later, on the weekend of November 5. The winners of the ties will go into the draw for the Group Stage of the CAF Confederation Cup.
