FLYING EAGLES KNOCK OUT MALI ON PENALTIES

The flying eagles defeated Mali at the on-going All African games 2019 football event. The game ended 5 – 4 on penalties in favor of Nigeria.

The game which was played at the Boubker Aamar stadium in Rabat Morocco witnessed a huge turnout of fans.

Both teams played out a goalless draw during the 90minutes regulation time. The flying eagle’s side had the chance to break the heart of the Malians on the stroke of the 90th minute when Success Makanjuola was fouled in the danger area by Malian defender Traore. The referee had no option than to award a penalty to Nigeria.

Captain Ibrahim Abubakar stepped up to take the spot-kick with so much pressure on his shoulders, but the god of soccer wasn’t on his side as he ballooned the ball over the post.

The game went straight into penalty shoot outs, and in what seemed to be like a marathon shoot-out, both teams missed their first three penalty kicks. However, they tried their best to score and it was the last kick which stopped the Malians from progressing into the finals as Nigerian goalkeeper Detan Ogundare saved the day for his team.

The game ended 5-4 in the favor of Nigeria as both the male and female youth teams qualified for the final of the competition.
