Ini Umotong was among the goals for Brighton as they beat London City Lionesses 4-2 in their final Group B encounter to reach the final eight of the FA Cup.
Brighton needed a win to go through, but were made to chase the game as they went behind in the 18th minute through Matilde Lundorf’s goal. The score line stayed that way until the halftime interval.
Upon the restart, Evie Clarke restored parity from the penalty spot in the 47th minute. Five minutes later, Brighton turned the game on its head as Umotong turned home a cross from Amanda Nilden’s to give them a 2-1 lead.
An own goal from Harley Bennett then gifted them a two-goal lead in the 68th minute before Emily Simpkins scored a fourth, but the visitors reduced the deficit late on through Ellie Mason’s goal.
Hope Powell’s ladies move on courtesy of the win to set up a final eight clash with Arsenal.
Umotong has now scored four goals from 12 games this season for Brighton and will be facing Manchester City in the Women’s Super League on Sunday.
