Nigeria’s sprint sensation, Itsekiri Usheoritse continues to blaze the trail in his quest to meet the qualifying times for the upcoming World Championships, as the sprinter clocked a new Personal Best (PB) of 20.53s to place third at the 22nd Guldendensporen Meeting in Belgium.
The reigning National Sport Festival Champion in the 100m crossed the line behind Jamaica’s Rasheed Dwyer (20.40s) and Qatar’s Femi Ogunode (20.41s). The time takes Itsekiri from 4th on the National ranking to 2nd behind World star, Divine Oduduru.
Earlier in the day, Itsekiri won the Men’s 100m where he beat sprint legend, Asafa Powell to second, taking the victory in 10.19s(+1.3). Asafa posted 10.25s as Japan’s Shiraishi Kirara clocked 10.29s for 3rd place.
Meanwhile, National Record Holder in the women’s High Jump Dorren Amata soared to a jump of 1.95m to claim victory at the 14th AAAG Sports Festival at the Godfrey Stadium in Georgia.
Her mark of 1.95m beats the World Standard of 1.94m and means she’s qualified for the World Championship in Doha later this year.
