IWOBI OPENS EVERTON ACCOUNT IN LEAGUE CUP

Nigerian International forward, Alex Iwobi scored his first Everton goal in the Toffees’ 4-2 win over Lincoln City in the League Cup on Wednesday night.

Iwobi made his debut for Everton in the Premier League defeat at Aston Villa last Friday after a sensational £40 million deadline-day transfer from Arsenal, but was handed a start in the cup tie by manager Marco Silva and got a goal in the closing stages of the game.

Harry Anderson put the home side ahead in the first minute, but Lucas Digne equalised for the Toffees in the 37th to send both sides into the break level.

After the break, Gylfi Sigurdsson put the visitors ahead for the first time in the game but, with 20 minutes left to play, Bruno Andrade levelled matters for the home side. As the game was nearing its climax, Iwobi headed home to put his side back in the lead in the 81st minute before making way for Theo Walcott a minute later.

Richarlison then added a fourth in the 88th minute to put the result beyond doubt and ensure progress into the next round.

Iwobi is expected to make his full league debut for Everton in the Premier League against Wolves at Goodison Park on Sunday.
