JAMAICA GETS A TIGHT WIN OVER HONDURAS
The Reggae Boyz of Jamaica which is the first Caribbean team to host the CONCACAF Gold Cup had a very good start to their tournament campaign on Monday, June 18, 2019, the game against Honduras was group C’s first match played at the Independence Park in Kingston with 17,874 fans in attendance.
With star player Leon Bailey making his senior debut, everyone was anticipating to see him in action but Orgill Denver stole the show by scoring just 15 minutes into the match with a header and gave a double in the 41st minute when he placed another brilliant header into the net with an assist from Brian Brown. At the break, the reggae boys were two goals up.
Returning for the second half of the game, Lozano gave Honduras their first goal in the 54th-minute, they tried to do a comeback, but when everyone felt Honduras had gotten their game back, a corner kick by Peter-Lee Vassell was placed in the net by a powerful heading by Damion Lowe in the 56th-minute.
The game looked destined to 3-1, but Honduras substitute Rubilio Castillo produced a fine header in the 92nd-minute and the ball was placed in the back of the net, making the game 3 – 2.
Jamaica had 4 shots on target against Honduras 0 shots. Jamaica is currently topping Group C as a result of this win.
