Nigeria international Junior Ajayi scored twice for Al Ahly in their 3-2 Egyptian Super Cup win over Zamalek on Friday night.
In a clash between the cup winners and the league champions, Al-Ahly went in as outright favourites and lived up to the billing. Ajayi put them ahead in the 18th minute with a powerful finish off a corner. Hussein El Shahat then made it 2-0 in the second minute of first-half added time after a defensive mix-up in the Zamalek box.
Three minutes into the second half, Ajayi made it 3-0; with his back to goal, he turned swiftly and calmly slotted home.
It looked like a stroll for the Red devils, but two penalties in the 64th and 75th minute from Mahmoud Alaa Eldin left the game finely balanced going into the final moments. However, Al Ahly held on for a momentous win at the expense of their rivals.
Ajayi, an Olympic bronze-medalist with Nigeria, joined the Egyptian giants from CS Sfaxien in 2016 and has won six domestic titles since moving to the club.
