Samuel Kalu added a bit of gloss to the scoreline for Girondins de Bordeaux in a routine 3-1 away victory over Amiens.
However, Les Girondins had to recover from a disastrous start, as they went behind in the second minute to Stiven Mendoza’s strike.
Paulo Sousa’s side had not lost since an opening defeat at high-flying Angers though, and roared back in impressive fashion. Summer signing Yacine Adli got off the mark for his new club to level matters only six minutes after, before finding the target yet again in added time at the end of the first half to give the visitors a half-time lead.
Amiens started the second half in the ascendancy, but failed to sustain their intensity, allowing Bordeaux to seize control of the encounter once again. It wasn’t until the 73rd minute, however, that the points were made safe.
After a turnover in the Amiens half, striker Jimmy Briand received the ball on the edge of the area, before laying it off to Kalu. The winger took a touch, before letting fly from distance and beating Regis Gurtner in the Amiens goal.
The 22-year-old’s first goal of the season perpetuates a run of six league games without defeat for Bordeaux, who now sit fifth on the table, just outside the European places.
