Nigeria youth international Kelechi Nwakali has joined Spanish Segunda Division side, SD Huesca from Arsenal in a permanent deal, the Premier League side have announced.

The 21-year-old joined the Gunners in 2016 after a title-winning campaign with Nigeria at the 2015 Under-17 World Cup, where he won the Golden Ball.

Nwakali failed to make an appearance for the North London giants since joining from Diamond Football Academy [DFA] three years ago. He had loan spells at MVV Maastricht (twice) and VVV Venlo but spent the entire 2018-2019 campaign in Portugal with Porto’s reserve team, for whom he made 16 league appearances.

The versatile midfielder, who can be deployed as a right or left-winger, was a part of the photoshoot for the launch of Arsenal’s new home kit for the 2019-2020 season in July, but is now set for a new challenge in Spanish football. There is no transfer fee involved in the deal, however Arsenal reportedly retain a sell-on clause.

Nwakali will spend the first six months out on loan at third division side UD Logrones.
