Nigeria youth international Kelechi Nwakali has returned to Arsenal ahead of the commencement of the new football season.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who won the Golden Ball at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2015, is reportedly back for the pre-season training of the Premier League side at London Colney.
Nwakali posted this on his Instagram account about a month ago, appearing to confirm he would be returning to his parent club following his loan spell in Portugal with FC Porto: “For now it’s time to move on to the next stage of my career.”
The versatile midfielder, who can be deployed as a right or left winger, was a part of the photoshoot for the launch of Arsenal’s new home kit for the 2019-2020 season, which took place on Monday, July 1.
The Arsenal loanee spent some time in Nigeria with two-time African Footballer of the Year and former Arsenal legend Kanu Nwankwo and his youth side Papilo Academy during the holidays, and will now look to break into the first team and truly kick-start his career with the Gunners.
Nwakali is yet to play for the North London giants since arriving from Diamond Football Academy [DFA] three years ago. He has had loan spells at MVV Maastricht (twice) and VVV Venlo but spent the entire 2018-2019 campaign in Portugal with the Porto’s reserve team for whom he made 16 league appearances.
