Forward Moses Simon scored the only goal of the game as Nantes recorded a narrow 1-0 win over OGC Nice in Ligue 1 on Saturday night.
Nantes had lost just one of their last four games going into this round nine fixture with Patrick Vieira’s men at Stade de la Beaujoire. It was a balanced affair throughout the first half of the encounter as neither side could find the opening goal.
After the restart, Nantes upped the tempo, creating more attempts to score than their opponents.
They finally got their deserved goal late into the game. Nantes worked the ball to the far right of the pitch where Kader Bamba beat Nice’s left back Malang Sarr with ease, before floating a delightful cross to the back post for Simon to head into an unguarded net four minutes from time.
Simon’s second goal of the season proved the winner for Nantes, and sees them move up to second in the Ligue 1 standings – occupying a UEFA Champions League position.
A regular in the French side, the 24-year-old Simon joined the Les Canaries from Spanish side Levante earlier this summer on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy.
