Forward Moses Simon was the hero for Nantes in their 2-1 away win over Amiens on Saturday night, scoring the winner six minutes from time on his debut for the Ligue 1 side.

FC Nantes had failed to win either of their first two league games, losing 2-1 to Lille on the opening weekend before a goalless stalemate with Marseille at home last weekend.

The first half of the game at the Stade de la Licorne ended goalless as neither side could get the better of the other. Amiens’ Bakaye Dibassy was sent off shortly after the half-hour mark. Eight minutes after the break however, FC Nantes took the lead through Mali striker Kalifa Coulibaly. Amiens got their equalizer when Sehrou Guirassy set up Bongani Zungu in the 71st minute.

Two minutes after the hosts got their leveler, Nantes manager Christian Gourcuff sent on Simon in place of Kader Bamba. The Nigeria International went on to grab the winning goal in the 84th minute, running in behind and dinking the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to hand his side their first three points of the 2019-2020 Ligue 1 season.

Simon joined the Les Canaris from Spanish side Levante earlier this month on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy.
