Arsenal has reached an agreement with Lille Oslo FC of France for the signature of their with the Ivorian winger Nicolas Pepe for a club-record fee of £72m. Arsenal and Pepe’s representatives have reached an agreement, and the transfer is expected to be completed in the next 24 to 48 hours subject to a medical.
Nicolas Pepe who is a winger can also play as a striker in a 4-4-2 formation. The fee will be the highest paid for an African footballer in the history of football. The 24-year-old scored 23 goals and had 11 assists for Lille last season as they came second in the French Ligue 1 and qualified to play in the UEFA Champions League in the next season.
However while Arsenal may have won his signature, Napoli came very close to signing him after their representatives met Lille’s asking price but the player went on to choose Arsenal.
But Arsenal broke their transfer record to bring Pepe, the Lille forward to pay (£72m) for his transfer.
The Ivory Coast international forward will sign a five – year deal with the club and he will earn around £135,000 per week.
The football club hopes the 24-year-old player will be fit to play against Newcastle on August 11.
Arsenal will be playing against Barcelona to complete their pre-season games on Sunday and it is not certain to if the manager will consider Pepe as one to get some minute against Barcelona.
