The Nigeria senior national team will take on Ukraine in an international friendly on September 10. This announcement was made on Friday by the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick.
“It is part of our on-going drive to expose as many players as we can to global football, so this should be another springboard for our young stars,” Pinnick said.
The first-ever meeting at senior international level between the two nations will take place at the Dnipro-Arena in Dnipro, which seats just over 30,000.
It will be the first outing for Nigeria’s Super Eagles since victory over Tunisia in Egypt secured a third-place at the Africa Cup of Nations in July. That semi-final run propelled Gernot Rohr’s side up 12 places in the latest FIFA rankings, up to 33rd in the world.
Ukraine, coached by legendary former striker Andriy Shevchenko, are currently ranked at number 25 in the FIFA rankings, and are on a five-match unbeaten run. They have also lost just once in their last 15 matches going back two years.
