The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has secured a scholarship worth $299,720 (N109,790,433) for 18 athletes who will represent the country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
This feat was achieved through the help of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Olympic Solidarity Committee and Association of National Olympic Committee of Africa (ANOCA).
In a statement signed by Olabanjo Oladapo, the General Secretary of the NOC, addressed to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, the committee stated that it has received $251,560 with a balance of $48,160 remaining.
The athletes who will benefit from this scholarship are: Omotayo Olajide, Adesanmi Oluwatoyin Victoria, Ofili Favour Chukwuka, Nwosu Chinazum Ruth, Adamu Abubakar Isah, Nathaniel Glory Onome, Brume Ese, and Enekwechi Chukwuebuka, Amusan Oluwatobiloba, Nathaniel Samson Oghenewegba, Adekuoroye Odunayo Folasade, Adeniyi Aminat Oluwafunmilayo, Oborodudu Blessing, Otuadinma Uzoamaka, Chukwechi Rosemary and Aruna Quadri Akinyemi.
The athletes, who are seen as potential medal winners for Nigeria come Tokyo 2018, compete in a variety of sports, such as basketball, weightlifting, athletics, table tennis, hockey and taekwondo.
