The Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) has inducted seven wrestlers who won gold medals at the African Senior Wrestling Championships in the last three years into the Federation’s Champions Club.
The wrestlers inducted are Ekerekeme Agiomor (86kg), Hananah Reuben (65kg), Bose Samuel (53kg) and Bisola Makunjuola (59kg) – a continental title winner in 2018. Others include Sunmisola Balogun (72kg) and Blessing Onyebuchi (76kg), who were African champions in 2019 and Esther Kolawole (55kg), who claimed her first senior title in Algiers last month.
At the induction ceremony which held in Yanagoa, capital of Bayelsa state, the President of NWF, Daniel Igali presided over the event and charged the new inductees to bring more glory to their nation.
“You should see your induction into the Champions Club as a great honour and privilege, which came as a result of your hard work,” Igali said.
“Always stay clean and avoid taking performance-enhancing drugs capable of damaging your career and getting you delisted from the Champions Club.
Igali also urged them to be good ambassadors of their country and try to win more laurels at the upcoming world events.
“As ambassadors of our great country Nigeria, you owe the nation a duty of representing her in an exemplary manner both on and off the mats.”
“I also want to use this opportunity to encourage you all to go for more glory at the continent, the World Championships and the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan.” He concluded.
