Odion Ighalo scored twice for Manchester United as they comfortably beat Derby County 3-0 in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Thursday evening.
Ighalo was on the mark in both halves to steer the Red Devils’ to victory at Pride Park after Luke Shaw’s opener just past the half-hour mark, taking his tally to three goals from two starts for the club.
After Wayne Rooney’s free-kick was saved by Sergio Romero, United took control of the game, finally getting the breakthrough in the 33rd minute through Shaw’s fortunate opener. His half-volley came off Jesse Lingard to loop over helpless Derby goalkeeper Kelle Roos and in.
Ighalo then scored the second of the game in the 41st minute, holding off Craig Forsyth and Max Lowe before neatly placing the ball into the bottom-left corner.
Derby’s second half bright start did not amount to much, and Ighalo added gloss to the scoreline with his second of the night to send United through.
Manchester United will play Norwich in the quarter-finals of the world’s oldest cup competition on March 21.
