ODUDURU AND OKAGBARE PULL OUT OF 100M RACES AT IAAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

2019 NCAA double Champion Divine Oduduru and Blessing Okagbare withdrew from their 100m races at the ongoing World Athletics Championships after they Did Not Start (DNS) in their respective Heats.

Oduduru, the joint second fastest 100m runner of the year with his 9.86 clocking earlier in the year, was listed to run in Heat 5 of the men’s 100m, but it was confirmed by the Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) that he was being rested for the 200m and 4x100m.

It was a move that eventually blew up in the face of the Federation as the IAAF rules stipulates that any athlete who withdraws from an event after being confirmed in the final entry list, will have to forfeit subsequent events.

The same fate befell Okagbare as she as a no-show in her Heat of the women’s 100m. Until the disqualification, both athletes were listed to run in the men and women 100m, 200m and 4x100m.
