Reigning NCAA double sprint champion, Divine Oduduru will on Saturday, August 24th lace his spikes to compete in the men’s 200m at the Paris leg of the IAAF Diamond League.
Oduduru, who made his debut in the 14-meet series in Monaco, will have a chance at redemption after failing to impress when he placed 8th in the 100m in 10.26s.
Oduduru has been listed to compete against Noah Lyles, the fastest man over the distance so far this year at 19.50 seconds and the fourth-fastest of all time.
The Nigerian holds a Personal Best of 19.73 seconds, the third fastest time this year, which he ran to win the 200m title at the 2019 NCAA Championship. He will also battle the reigning world champion in the half lap, Turkey’s Ramil Ruliyev who holds a Season’s Best of 19.99 seconds.
Ecuador’s Alex Nonez has also been listed for the race. He comes into the race with a 19.87 Personal Best, while Frenchman Christophe Lemaitre who is yet to break 20 seconds in the event so far this year will add spice to the race alongside South Africa’s Clarence Munyai who has a Personal Best of 19.69s.
Oduduru can still qualify for the finals in Brussels on September 6th, but he would have to claim victory to get the eight maximum points and hope Munyai finishes below fifth in the race.
It will be recalled that the Nigerian duo of Blessing Okagbare and Tobi Amusan have already qualified for the finals of their respective disciplines in Zurich.
