Africa’s fastest woman in the 200m, Blessing Okagbare will return to the Prefontaine Classic in Stanford on Sunday, as she hopes to secure her first victory in what is the seventh Diamond League meet of the season.
Okagbare, who clocked a Season’s Best (SB) time of 11.07s to win the women’s 100m in the North African city of Rabat two weeks ago, will this time be racing in the 200m against some of the best sprinters on the day.
The Olympic Silver medalist in the Long Jump who has already sealed qualification for this year’s World Championships in Doha will come up against a field loaded with some elite sprinters.
Headlining the field would be Olympic 100m & 200m Champion, Elaine Thompson. The Jamaican sprinter only last week returned to her very best when she clocked a blistering World Lead (WL) of 22.00s to win the Jamaican Championships.
British Sprinter and double European Champion, Dina Asha-Smith is also in the line-up, as she possesses the third fastest time (20.18s) over the half-lap distance this year. Also, reigning World champion over the distance, Dafne Schippers will be competing over the distance in Stanford.
Okagbare will be hoping she can secure her first win on US soil in the Diamond League, since she made her debut in 2010, with her best showing coming in 2014 when she placed second behind Torie Bowie over the 200m.
