Nigeria U-23 striker David Okereke scored a brace and laid on another in Club Brugge’s 6-0 mauling of St Truiden in the Belgian Pro League at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Friday night.
Club Brugge blew away St. Truiden with a memorable first-half performance, with Okereke getting both of his goals in the opening period as the Blue-Black continued their 100 per cent start to the new campaign.
The home side started brightly and raced into a two-goal lead in the opening twenty minutes. Okereke opened the scoring in the 16th minute and doubled his side’s tally four minutes later to continue his fine form in front of goal. Hans Vanaken and Percy Tau added more goals before the break, the latter latching on to a slide-rule through ball by Okereke to effectively end the encounter as a contest.
After the break, Philippe Clement’s side had to wait till the 72nd minute to add to their lead; Nigerian Emmanuel Dennis opening his account for the season, before Siebe Schrijvers completed the rout in the 83rd minute with the sixth goal of the game.
With this double, Okereke takes his season’s tally in the Pro League to three goals from two league games.
The former Spezia Calcio striker featured for 65 minutes and will look to continue his good start in Belgium for the Blue-black when they take on Dynamo Kiev in a UEFA Champions League qualification round match on August 6.
