Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has handed a maiden national team call-up to Slavia Prague forward Peter Olayinka for October’s friendly against Brazil in Singapore.
The 23-year-old impressed in the Champions League against Italian giants Inter a week ago, and scored in an unlikely 1-1 draw in San Siro. That performance has apparently caught the German’s eye, and has earned Olayinka a place within the national team squad.
Influential Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi makes a return to the Super Eagles fold, having missed out on the friendly against Ukraine earlier this month, and there is also a returning place for Bursaspor midfielder cum right-back Shehu Abdullahi.
The other headline introduction in the squad is Granada midfielder Ramon Azeez. The 26-year-old has impressed with limited game-time in La Liga for the newly-promoted side, scoring twice and impressing in a shock 2-0 win over reigning league champions Barcelona this past weekend.
Azeez was a part of Nigeria’s squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and started the Super Eagles’ opening match in the competition, but has not been called up since the 3-2 home defeat to Congo in September of that same year—a five-year hiatus.
