Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has spoken of striker Odion Ighalo’s happiness and confidence after his brace in a 3-0 FA Cup win at Derby.
United left-back Luke Shaw opened the scoring with a half-volley that went into the ground, and bounced over the Derby goalkeeper before going in; before Ighalo’s smart finishes sealed a quarter-final spot for Solskjaer’s men.
Ighalo’s first saw him create space to finish brilliantly between two Derby defenders, before he capitalized on a loose ball in the box for his second with 20 minutes to go.
“When you get strikers in you want them to be happy and confident,” Solskjaer told the BBC after the game.
“He has come in here and of course we still have a few injuries and it is great for us to have Odion to call upon. He is a different striker for us and scores some good goals, there is not many who could dig that one out for his first.” the Norwegian manager said of his Nigerian forward.
The AFCON Golden Boot winner arrived at Old Trafford from Shanghai Shenhua in a shock loan move late in January and has made six appearances for the Red Devils, scoring three goals.
Up next for United and Ighalo is the Manchester derby on Sunday, before their Europa League round of 16 clash with LASK on Thursday.
