Nigeria international Victor Osimhen was on target for French side Lille, but was unable to save Les Dogues from defeat at the hands of Chelsea in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Both sides came into the game seeking their first win of the competition this season; Chelsea fell to a defeat on home soil to Valencia in their opening Group H match, whole Lille were humbled 3-0 at the hands of last year’s semi-finalists Ajax.
Here, it was the Blues who were first off the mark, as striker Tammy Abraham beat the hosts’ offside trip and steadied himself, before converting Fikayo Tomori’s well-weighted pass into the box in the 22nd minute.
The lead would not last very long, however. Eleven minutes later, Osimhen rose highest in the box to head Jonathan Bamba’s corner into the corner, beating Kepa Arrizabalaga all ends up and levelling the score. It was the 20-year-old’s first-ever Champions League goal.
Chelsea though would come out on top thanks to Brazil forward Willian, who produced a sensational finish to do justice to Callum Hudson-Odoi’s delivery with 13 minutes left to play.
So far this season, Osimhen has scored seven goals in all competitions for Lille, all of which have come at Stade Pierre Mauroy.
