Lille striker Victor Osimhen could face a spell on the sidelines after coming off injured an hour into Les Dogues’ dominant win over Bordeaux on Saturday.

Osimhen, who had scored in every home for the French side this season, struggled to get involved in the proceedings, and pulled up early in the second half with a groin injury, before being replaced by veteran forward Loic Remy.

Lille manager Christoph Galtier confirmed after the game that the 20-year-old was experiencing some soreness in the adductor muscle in his left thigh, and that further tests would be carried out to determine the severity of the injury.

This injury has cast doubt over Osimhen’s involvement in November’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Depending on the level of damage, he could face anywhere between three weeks to three months on the sidelines.

However, Galtier remained upbeat in his prognosis, while expressing a bit of regret. “It does not look very serious. I do not know if he will be operational against Marseille. I was thinking of taking him out just before he got hurt,” he revealed.
