Aruna Quadri helped his side Sporting Club beat visiting GV Hennebont TT 3-1 in their 2019 Table Tennis Champions League round three group game on Wednesday.
Quadri narrowly edged Cedric Nuytinck 3-2 (11-9, 1-5, 5-11, 9-11, 11-6) in the first game to set the tone for another home victory. In similar fashion, Diogo Carvalho beat Sheng Peng 3-2 (11-8, 4-11, 13-11, 8-11, 13-11) to further drive home the hosts’ advantage.
However, Sporting’s Paulo Guilhermo lost 3-0 to Quentin Robinot (3-11, 4-11, 5-11) before Quadri breezed past Peng 3-1 (11-8, 8-11, 11-6, 11-8) in the final game to see out a comfortable 3-1 win for the Portuguese champions.
Quadri’s Sporting Club prevailed over the French side to improve their season record to two wins and a loss after three rounds of games.
Up next for Sporting and Quadri is the return leg match in France later this month as they continue their quest to reach the second round of the competition.
