Former Super Eagles gaffer Samson Siasia has been banned by FIFA on grounds of match-fixing.
He was found guilty of agreeing to the manipulation of matches for betting purposes.
In a statement released by FIFA, Siasia breached Act. 11 (bribery) of the 2009 edition of the FIFA Code of Ethics, he has since been fined 50,000 dollars and given a life ban.
The life ban will not allow him to participate in any sports-related activities or hold any administrative positions both at the national level and international level.
The Nigerian football federation described the life ban as a “massive sanction” and said it was too massive for a legend like Samson Siasia.
Acting president of NFF in a statement said “The NFF was shocked to learn of the investigation and the subsequent decision by FIFA Ethics Committee to place a life ban on Mr. Samson Siasia.
He further stressed that while they would respect FIFA’s process and investigation that was conducted prior to the decision, and that the least the country can do for him is to be readily available for him and wait till he is able to clear his name.
Meanwhile, Siasia has vowed to clear his name from the national disgrace.
He said “ forget that report” he also said “ I am tired of everyone asking on the reported issue, I don’t know anything about this. He also added that he has not received any letter from FIFA and he will fight to clear his name.
