Cote d’Ivoire played out a goalless draw with Nigeria’s Super Falcons in their 2020 Olympic Games first leg qualifying match in Abidjan on Thursday.
Despite dominating the game, the Super Falcons could not make their dominance count, with Nigeria captain Asisat Oshoala missing the two best chances to win the game for the African Champions. Both sides had several opportunities to claim victory but they were also spurned.
Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie also ensured the Falcons left Abidjan without defeat, thwarting the Ivoirians when she was called upon.
The game, however, ended on a sour note for the visitors, as Nigeria midfielder Amarachi Okoronkwo was sent off in the final minutes of the game at Parc des Sports de Treichville.
The team is expected back in Nigeria on Friday to immediately commence preparations for the reverse fixture.
The return leg of this qualifying round will be played at the Agege Stadium in Lagos on Monday, October 7.
