Nigeria’s D’Tigress beat Mali 74-59 in the semi-final of the FIBA Olympics Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Maputo on Sunday to reach the Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament (WOQT).
The African Champions found it relatively easy against their opponents on the day, winning the first three quarters to ensure passage into the final round of qualifying.
Nigeria won the first quarter 14-11, then followed it up with a 20-14 win in the second quarter to further increase their lead over the Malians to nine points at the break.
After the break, a 25 -14 win in their favour gave Mali no hope of a win anymore but they equally tried their best to win the last quarter 20-15 to put some respite on the scoreline.
Nigeria finished with a perfect record, securing wins over Mozambique, Mali and DR Congo who failed to show up.
Otis Hughley’s team will represent Africa, alongside Mozambique, at the Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament which is the final qualifying round of qualifying in February 2020.
