The 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign for Panama in group D started on Tuesday, June 18th, 2019 as they Triumphed over Trinidad and Tobago in front of 19,400 spectators at the Allianz field by 19:30 ET.
The game was exciting and fast-paced as four MLS players were on pitch to start the match for the Red Bulls. It was game number three hundred and three in the history of the gold cup. Panama were in their all-white outfits and Trinidad in their Red and black jerseys.
Trinidad was doing more of the pressing and against the run of play came, a beautiful through pass from Torres put Armando Cooper of Panama in motion to slide with the ball on his left foot finding the back of the net and deceiving the goalkeeper in 53rd-minute leaving Trinidad to increase their tempo to qualify. It was Armando Cooper’s 8th goal in the tournament.
Moments later, a long-range shot from Escobar Fidel of Panama came in but a brilliant save from Marvin Phillip denied a goal.
Barcenas Edgar broke through for a second goal in the 68th-minute after penetrating with multiple follow up shots as the defenders watch him play free style.
Since the inception of the gold cup in 1991, the Red Bulls have been runners up once, in 2005 when the tournament was hosted by The United States of America.
