Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team walloped their Guinean counterparts 6-1 in the first leg of the 2020 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup second-round qualifying match in Conakry.
Nigeria got off to a flying start when Chinyere Kalu put the side ahead in the third minute following a defensive error on the part of the Guineans. Eight minutes later, Yemisi Samuel scored a worldie of a goal from about 35 yards to give the Nigerian girls control of the game.
Then, seven minutes before half-time, Rofiat Imuran poked home from a goalmouth scramble to send the visitors into the break with a massive lead in Conakry.
After the interval, the five-time African champions made it 4-0 through Sunshine Stars player Imuran, who was set up brilliantly by Shobowale Olusola.
The hosts got one back with about ten minutes left to play, which only served as a mere consolation in the end. There was still time for Yemisi to complete her hat-trick as the Osun Babes star scored twice in the final six minutes to put the home side out of their misery.
Nigeria is now positioned to reach the third round of qualifying as they continue their quest to qualify for the U-17 Women’s World Cup in India later this year, having missed the previous edition in Uruguay two years ago.
The return leg of this tie will be played at the Agege Stadium, Lagos on March 14.
