UJAH LEADS UNION BERLIN IN UPSET OF LEADERS GLADBACH
Nigerian international forward Anthony Ujah scored in Union Berlin’s shock 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in the German Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon.
Union Berlin continued their recent impressive form in the German topflight, having won three of their past four games. Die Eiserne came up against the league leaders, and it was the Nigerian who got them the opening goal en route to victory.
The home side went 1-0 up after just fifteen minutes. Union Berlin broke away on a counter, worked the ball to the far left side where a cross from Marcus Ingvartsen was floated in for Ujah to head home for the opener.
Borussia continued to dominate but failed to break down Urs Fischer’s men, as they went into the break leading 1-0.
After the interval, Borusssia kept pushing for an equalizer, but it was not forthcoming. Deep into additional time Sebastian Andersson took the game away from Die Fohlen, making it 2-0 in favour of the hosts: a cross from the left was deflected onto the head of Andersson to guide home and thereby hand Union Berlin their third consecutive league win.
By virtue of the win, Union Berlin are now placed 11th on the Bundesliga log. Ujah has scored two goals from ten games for the newly-promoted side this season.
