UZOHO RETURNS TO CYPRUS ON LOAN
Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna has announced the departure on loan of Nigeria goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho to Cypriot club, AC Omonoia Nicosia.
The Super Eagles shot-stopper is expected to spend the entire 2019-20 campaign at the GSP Stadium.
“Deportivo, Omonia FC and Francis have reached an agreement that cedes the Nigerian goalkeeper to the Cypriot club for the 2019/2020 season. Deportivo wants to wish Francis a lot of luck in his new professional project,” the club said in a series of tweets.
Uzoho spent the first half of the 2018-19 season at Elche, for whom he kept three clean sheets in eight matches. He then moved on loan to Anorthosis Famagusta for the remainder of the season but could not get enough playing time. He featured in only three matches throughout the campaign at Stadio Antonis Papadopoulos.
The 20-year-old now has another chance to impress and put his first spell in Cyprus behind him after that forgettable six-month spell, which was blighted by controversy over his health certificate.
The former Aspire Academy player was Nigeria’s first choice goalkeeper at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and started in all three matches. However, he lost his place to Daniel Akpeyi on the eve of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, and is yet to feature at all.
