Harambee stars of Kenya and former Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama has said the lockdown period in Canada was a tough period for him.
The 28-year-old who spent six years in the English Premier League with Spurs moved to American Major League Soccer (MLS) in March 2020.
The tough-tackling midfielder has only featured in a game for his club Montreal Impact and they lost to Mexico’s Olimpia in the CONCACAF Champions League on March 11 just before the global football hiatus during to the coronavirus pandemic.
“It was a really tough period for me, joining a new club and then everything just went wrong with the pandemic hitting the world,” he told MLS official website.
Montreal among 25 teams participating in the MLS tournament, which is a one-off competition to mark the league’s return to action from the Covid-19 pandemic has also backed his new team to come good on the pitch.
